May 12 | 19:30 - 21:00

On Monday 12 May, the Queer Book Club has a special session for The Hague Pride week. We’ll read Andrea Lawlor’s magical novel Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl, a novel that takes us on a wild journey through queer culture.
Set in 1993, Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl introduces us to Paul, who is a shapeshifter who explores queer scenes in Iowa, Provincetown and San Franscisco, sometimes as Paul, sometimes as Polly. On his/her journey Paul/Polly experiences the queer underground punk scene, leather bars, and Riot Grrrl clubs, but also witnesses the devastating effects of the AIDS epidemic.
The session is chaired by Looi van Kessel, assistant professor of literary studies and gender studies at Leiden University. The sessions of the queer book club will be held in English.
When: Monday May 12 from 19:30 to 21:00
