2. Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

Our Conformance Target:

Pride The Hague's website and mobile application strive to be fully conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards as required by:

  • European Accessibility Act (EAA) - Effective June 28, 2025
  • EU Web Accessibility Directive 2016/2102
  • Netherlands accessibility legislation

"Fully conformant" means that the content fully conforms to the accessibility standard without any exceptions. We are actively working to achieve and maintain this level of conformance across all pages and features.

3. WCAG 2.1 Level AA Compliance

Our website adheres to the four principles of accessibility as outlined in WCAG 2.1:

Perceivable

Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive.

  • Text alternatives for non-text content
  • Captions and alternatives for multimedia
  • Content can be presented in different ways without losing meaning
  • Sufficient color contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text)

Operable

User interface components and navigation must be operable by all users.

  • All functionality available from keyboard
  • Users have enough time to read and use content
  • Content does not cause seizures or physical reactions
  • Users can easily navigate, find content, and determine where they are

Understandable

Information and operation of the user interface must be understandable.

  • Text content is readable and understandable
  • Web pages appear and operate in predictable ways
  • Users are helped to avoid and correct mistakes
  • Clear and consistent navigation patterns

Robust

Content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by assistive technologies.

  • Compatible with current and future assistive technologies
